Services: The funeral mass will be at 11:00am, Saturday, August 13, 2016. Burial will follow at the Old North Cemetery, Woodbury, CT. The family requests that blue, turquoise or purple be worn as these were Claire’s favorite colors.

Visitation: Claire’s family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, August 13, 2016 from 9:30am – 11:00am at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main St South, Southbury, CT.

Claire “Diz” Greatorex, 83, of Southbury, CT passed peacefully on August 8, 2016. She leaves behind her beloved husband Walter of over 62 years.

Born in 1933 and raised in Woodbury, CT by the late William F. and Clara (Perro) Fleming, she graduated from Woodbury High School. Claire worked at the Woodbury Telephone Company, Woodbury Post Office and then several transportation companies, most recently First Student until she was 80 years old. Her many student passengers called her “Mrs. G”, as she drove several generations over the years.

Claire was a long-time parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, Southbury, CT. She enjoyed spending her time with family and friends, thrift shopping with her niece Linda, caring for her gardens & plants, and feeding the hummingbirds and any animal that entered the yard. She was strong-willed and opinionated, yet fun, loving, with a generous heart, and an incredible sense of humor. She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.

In addition to Walter she is survived by her son Gary Greatorex and wife Lauren of Woodbury, daughter Carleen Wells and husband Rand of Lebanon, CT, three granddaughters that were her world, Lindsay, Malissa and Cassandra; sisters-in-law Helen Albanese and Leora Greatorex; as well as cousins, many nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, godchildren, friends, her parakeets “The Guys” and several fur grandbabies, including Wyley and Tuttie.

She is predeceased by her siblings Irene Sims and William P. Fleming, and several brother and sister-in-laws.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital and the VITAS Hospice care team.
