Obituary: Clayton L. Nichols, 87, of Southbury
He was both a master craftsman and master locksmith, retiring from the Southbury Training School carpentry shop.

Southbury – Clayton L. Nichols, 87, died Tuesday, May 1st in the VITAS Unit of St. Mary’s Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Dorothy (Wiles) Nichols.
Clayton was born June 2, 1930 in Waterbury, a son of the late Floyd and Isabel (Young) Nichols. He was a US Army veteran, stationed in Berlin, Germany, from 1951-1953. He was both a master craftsman and master locksmith, retiring from the Southbury Training School carpentry shop. “Pa’s” greatest joys were his home and his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren, Jen and Nick, always attending their games and being their biggest fan.

They could always hear “Pa” cheering for them from the stands. Also known to friends as Papa Nichols, he was an avid gardener and could usually be found working on a project in his workshop. He enjoyed his morning walks with his best friend, Bob, and was a long-time Southbury resident.
He leaves his loving daughter, Susan Catuccio, and her husband, Peter, of Southbury, and his two beloved grandchildren, Jennifer and Nicholas Catuccio. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Floyd and Franklyn, and his sister, Lois.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 9th at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South, Southbury. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Southbury. Calling hours: Tuesday, May 8th from 6 to 8 p.m. in the daily chapel of the church. Arrangements by Carpino Funeral Home, Southbury.
