Southbury - Elia Cortés Seisdedos, 96, peacefully passed to the loving embrace of her heavenly Father on January 9, 2018. A resident of Southbury, Connecticut for the last 25 years, Elia knew no strangers; her joyous and infectious laugh touched the lives of all who had the privilege of her company. Throughout her life, Elia demonstrated extraordinary resilience in the face of great challenge and offered abundant love to family and friends.
Her thoughtful advice was welcome; her parting benedictions were treasured. Elia loved her homeland Cuba and delighted in sharing stories of her childhood. She was equally proud of her United States citizenship, never missing an election. Settling in Bridgeport CT, Elia worked at Underwood, Dictaphone, and finally Sikorsky, where she helped build helicopters during the Vietnam War. She taught English as a second language in Bridgeport during the 1960s, building confidence in her students as they settled in their new country.

Upon retiring from Sikorsky, she selflessly dedicated herself to her two children, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She also became an active member of the Heritage Village community, teaching Spanish and dancing salsa at the community center, and hosting friends in her home regularly. Elia loved her family completely. The wisdom she shared will guide her family throughout their lives. Her love for her family will forever nurture them and provide solace in her absence.
She will be profoundly missed by her surviving daughter Ely Crozier, her son Dr. Julio Ramirez and his wife Annie Porges; her grandchildren Brian Merena, Deborah Eschmann and her husband Stephen Eschmann; Jennifer Ferguson and her husband Brian Ferguson; Kathleen Scannell and her husband Peter Scannell; Elia and Julian Ramirez; her great-grandchildren Isabella and Benjamin Merena; Sofia, Elena, and Jonathan Eschmann; Brendan and Liam Ferguson; and Samantha Scannell, the most recent blessed gift to her loving family. Elia’s family would like to thank Maria Krawiec for her kindness and companionship during the last year.
