After thirty years of employment, George retired from the Town of Southbury, where he was the Outside Facilities Director. George and his crew took great pride in maintaining all roads and keeping them in excellent condition and open even in the most adverse winter weather conditions. He had a great relationship with the town's local contractors, and together they provided the very best services for Southbury.

George's greatest treasure was spending time with his family, and he especially loved watching his grandchildren compete in sports. He was a faithful Dallas Cowboys fan and a NASCAR enthusiast who followed Dale Earnhardt. George liked camping and boating and spending time with lifelong friends. He loved Southbury and remembers a time when he could ride his horse down Main Street. He was a shrewd card player, especially at Setback, and he could throw a mean ringer in horseshoes.
