Obituary: Joan M. Waterhouse, 82, of Southbury

Joan M. Waterhouse, a long time resident of Southbury CT, age 82, passed away peacefully Tuesday January 23, 2018 at a Genesis Healthcare facility in Southern New Jersey. Born on June 1, 1935 in Brooklyn New York, she was the daughter of George Ellsworth and Ruth (Kane) Waters.

Joan earned her bachelor’s degree at Columbia Presbyterian in New York. She had an extraordinary and rewarding career. She worked in hospitals, schools, nursing homes, clinics and home care. She retired after ten years of night shifts at East Hill Woods in Southbury.

As a devoted minister’s wife, Joan held an active role in service to church and community. Joan called many places home including; Newton and Upton MA, Allentown PA, Williamstown and Lowville NY, Milford NH, and Baltimore MD before settling in Southbury to care for her parents.

Although predeceased by her husband Howard A. Waterhouse, she was surrounded by the love of her siblings Barbara Schniable and Donald Waters and her children Carol (Mark) Sinner, Paul Waterhouse and Ruth (late husband Edward) Jensen as well as her 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, 3 nephews and 2 great nephews.

She will be remembered for always smiling, no matter the adversity and always doing for others wanting nothing in return.

A memorial service will be held on February 3 at 1pm at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main St North Southbury CT. Those desiring may send donations to American Red Cross, Heifer International or ones favorite charity.
