Obituary: John Turk, 77, of Southbury
Served four terms as Commander of American Legion Post 147 in Southbury and was inducted into the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame in 2017.

SOUTHBURY - John Turk, 77, departed this life on August 3, 2018 at Danbury Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Adele (Pocchiare) Turk. John was born in Schenectady, NY on August 8, 1940 to the late Wilfred and Catherine (Hannon) Turk.
John was a graduate of the University of Delaware and Iona College. His lifetime of service to country and community began in the Delaware Army National Guard. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. Served four terms as Commander of American Legion Post 147 in Southbury and was inducted into the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame in 2017. John served in every municipality in which he lived: elections to City Council in Danbury and Board of Selectman in Southbury.

He served on charter revision commissions in Danbury and Southbury and was a staunch advocate for Veterans and senior citizens. He was a 4th degree grand knight of the Knights of Columbus at Sacred Heart Church in Southbury and active community volunteer. John was a supporter of youth sports, coaching baseball and basketball. Among his hobbies, growing tomatoes and tracking the weather were his favorites.
John will be cherished in the memories of his wife Adele, son Matthew (Edith) Turk, daughter Tracy (Craig) Hughes, stepsons Michael Tomanelli, Richard (Laura) Tomanelli, Adam (Gina) Tomanelli, his 14 grandchildren, sister Marie Taylor, and brother Wilfred (Nancy) Turk.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 6th at Sacred Heart Church in Southbury. The family will receive friends and visitors on Monday, August 5th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Sacred Heart Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Legion Post 147, 150 Lee Farm Road, Southbury, CT, or, Knights of Columbus, Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South, Southbury, CT.
