Joseph J. Orlando, 70, of Southbury, passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside at St. Mary’s Hospital on Friday, October 9, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Dianne (Stubbe) Orlando.

Joseph was born August 9, 1945, in Jersey City, New Jersey, son of the late Gondolfo and Julia (Betlow) Orlando. A long-term resident of Southbury, Connecticut, Joe grew up in Garwood, New Jersey. He received his bachelor’s degree in engineering from what is now called the New Jersey Institute of Technology and MBA from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. After more than 25 years, he retired as a senior software engineer from Sikorsky Aircraft.
Along with his devoted wife of 43 years, he is survived by his loving daughters Jennifer Orlando, Jessica Thompson, her husband Adam Thompson and granddaughter Cora Mae, and brother John Orlando and his husband David Vogel.

Some of Joe’s greatest joys in life were spending time with his family, dancing with his daughters, and playing with his young granddaughter. Joe was an avid fisherman and accomplished guitar player since childhood.
Joe worked his entire life to ensure that his family was taken care of. His wit and intelligence were a great combination, and he enjoyed the simple things in life. He will be remembered for his dedication to family members and friends, and will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 17, 10 a.m. at Dooley Funeral Home in Cranford, New Jersey. Inurnment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey.
