Obituary: Leroy Patrick Fitzgerald, 83, of Southbury

SOUTHBURY - Leroy Patrick Fitzgerald died peacefully on April 25, 2018 at the age of 83. Leroy was a police officer in Waterbury and a long-serving corrections officer at the Cheshire Correctional Institution. After retiring from state employment, he worked as a tool and die cutter at Marlin Firearms in New Haven. In his retirement, Leroy was an avid chess player and gardener.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret, their daughter, Donna, sister-in-law Kathleen Zarrella, brother-in-law Andrew Zarrella, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Helen and John, and his brothers Douglas, Ronald, and Allan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South, Southbury, followed by burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery. No calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the COPD Foundation. Arrangements by Carpino Funeral Home, Southbury.
