Obituary: Neil Swanberg, 57, of Southbury
He took great pride in the Special Olympics and enjoyed space adventure. Neil was known for his friendly and loving character.

Southbury– Neil Swanberg, 57, died of complications from pneumonia Thursday, June 7th. He was the son of Ernest and Germaine Swanberg of Southbury.
Neil was born October 28, 1960 in Gainesville, Florida. Neil was deeply loved by his parents and siblings including Karen Davis of Charlottesville, Virginia and Ned Swanberg of Montpelier, Vermont. Neil was beloved by his nieces Cora Swanberg and Jessica Davis, and nephew Jonathan Davis, and was so proud to be their uncle.

Neil was not expected to live long when he was born but through the warm embrace of his family and friends he flourished. He grew up in Stratford and Southbury, and attended Danbury High School. He worked at Belimo, and in many programs coordinated by Ability Beyond. He took great pride in the Special Olympics and enjoyed space adventure. Neil was known for his friendly, loving, and mischievous character that inspired joy and many loyal friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ability Beyond in Bethel, which has enabled Neil to live an independent and dignified life, most recently with the household and caregivers in Dodgingtown. The family is grateful to his close caregivers, and to Hospice, for the care in the last weeks of his life.

A memorial service will be held in Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South, Southbury at 11 am on Saturday June 30. A reception will follow in the church hall. Arrangements by Carpino Funeral Home.
