Obituary: Paul R. Prado, 87, of Southbury

He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and worked in aircraft services for American Airlines for 36 years.

Southbury – Paul R. Prado, 87, of Southbury, died peacefully Saturday, Nov. 26th. Mr. Prado was born March 14, 1929 in New York City, son of the late Miguel Prado-Perez and Mary Ford.

He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and worked in aircraft services for American Airlines for 36 years.

He was a devoted and loving husband for 52 years to his wife, Mary, who died in 2007.

He earned a degree in Biology in 1968 from SUNY Farmingdale while working full time and raising his three children. Paul was an avid hockey fan and an original NY Islander season ticket holder.

For many years he was a dedicated Hospice volunteer. After Paul and Mary raised their children in Farmingdale, L.I. , NY they moved several times.

They truly loved their homes in Southold, L.I., NY and more recently, Lighthouse Cove in Melbourne Beach, FL, where he leaves many friends. Pop, as he was affectionately known by many, enjoyed the simple pleasures of family, friends and a cold beer.

He leaves two devoted sons, Michael Prado and wife, Valerie, of Avon and James Prado and wife, Karen, of Roxbury; and four grandchildren, Sean and wife, Belinda, Katy, Dan and Matthew. He is pre-deceased by his daughter, Rita Prado, grandsons, Gregory and Ryan, brother, Joseph and sister, Ceil Frank. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wed. Nov. 30th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 733 Oxford Road, Oxford.

Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Southbury. Calling hours: Tuesday Nov. 29th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 733 Oxford Road, Oxford, CT 06478
