
Richard C. Greene, 69, passed away from a long illness at the Birmingham Healthcare Center in Derby on Wed., February 1, 2012. He leaves his wife, Alice, of 119 Hornets Nest Rd., Southbury.
Richard was born in Farmington, Maine on March 17, 1942 to the late Barbara and Gordon Greene. Richard attended Dixfield High School, in Dixfield, Maine and graduated in 1960. He then attended Bliss College in Lewiston, ME and received an associate’s degree in accounting in 1962. After graduating, Richard was hired by Western Union and worked as a teletype technician for 30 years.
After leaving Western Union, Richard also ran a small business, ARG Laser Recharge, and drove as a truck driver for various local companies. He also worked as a bartender at the Harrison Inn in Southbury.

Richard was also a member of the King Hiram Lodge #57 in Dixfield, ME and was active in the local community as a volunteer firefighter for the Southbury Volunteer Fire Department from 1977 until his early retirement in 2003. He has remained a sustaining member and participated in various committees and also ran the junior division for a couple of years. Throughout his retirement, he remained busy in the department by taking part in various events like the Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinners each year.
Besides his wife, Richard is survived by his three children: Steven Greene of Albany, N.Y., Judy and Allison Greene, residing in Southbury and his three grandchildren Steven, Matthew and Gabriella. He also has a sister, Glenna Barrows, residing in Grafton, Mass., with her husband, Robert and his nephew, Robert, Jr.
