Obituary: Shirley A. Unwin, 82, of Southbury

Southbury – Shirley A. Unwin, 82, died Friday, March 17th in Waterbury Hospital. She was the wife of John Unwin Jr. Mrs. Unwin was born January 24, 1935 in Northampton, MA, daughter of the late Ralph and Agnes Hayward.

She had worked as an LPN at Springfield Hospital and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, later retiring as a CNA from Ashlar of Newtown, where she worked for 25 years. She was an avid reader and a resident of Southbury since 1965.

Besides her devoted husband, Jack, of 60 years, she leaves three loving children: Tracy A. Sherman Unwin of Torrington, Kristin Kales of Waterbury and Brett H. Unwin of Southbury; one sister, Esther Costigan of Massachusetts; and two grandchildren, Jeffrey Sherman of Hartford and Morgan Kales of Waterbury. She also leaves many nieces and nephews and very good friends.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, March 25th from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury, CT 06488. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Private burial in Pine Hill Cemetery will be in the spring.
