Obituary: Stephen Evans, 69, of Southbury

SOUTHBURY - Stephen Evans, 69, departed this life on April 27, 2019 peacefully at home. His was the beloved husband of Lynne Hall.
Stephen was born in Flushing, NY on August 12, 1949 to the late Llewellyn and Dorothy (Bottomley) Evans. Stephen, also known as Steve, graduated from Jackson High in 1967. After graduation, he was drafted into the US Army and fought honorably in Vietnam. Upon discharge, he helped to start a club called AMVets for American Veterans in New Jersey. He moved to Connecticut and worked at Yankee News for many years, and then at LaBonne's Market in Woodbury until he retired. His passions included playing pool with his friends, mowing the grass, gardening, and having cookouts with those he cared about.

In addition to his wife, Steve is survived by his daughter Kim and her husband Zac, and his beloved grandson Sawyer Swanson of Morris, CT; He is also survived by 5 brothers and sisters. Lew Evans and his wife Carol of Wolcott, CT; Doral Thomas of Brick, NJ; Jay Evans of Toms River, NJ; Rick Evans and Barbara Evans both of New Jersey. Steve also leaves behind nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews as well as many close friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 11:30am at Sacred Heart Church in Southbury, CT. There are no calling hours. Interment in New Jersey will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be directed to the Disabled American Veterans (www.DAV.org) or the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
