Obituary: William Robert Liedlich, 86, of Southbury

Bill was an avid birdwatcher and was an active volunteer in the Audubon Christmas Bird Count.

SOUTHBURY – William Robert Liedlich, 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the Lutheran Home of Southbury. For 58 years, he was the husband of Nancy Crittenden Liedlich.
Bill was born in Waterbury, Connecticut on November 30, 1931, a son of the late Wilhelm and Dorothea Hannemann Liedlich. After graduating from Crosby High School, he served in the U.S. Army for 3 years, stationed in Germany.

With benefits of the G.I. Bill, he attended the University of Connecticut and earned a bachelor’s degree, and later a master’s at Trinity College. Both Bill and Nancy received J.D. degrees from UConn School of Law and worked in private law practice in Southbury. During his decades-long career as a high school and college teacher, Bill helped to start the legal assistant program at Mattatuck, now known as Naugatuck Valley Community College.

Bill was an avid birdwatcher and was an active volunteer in the Audubon Christmas Bird Count, the nation's longest-running community science bird project.

Besides his wife, he leaves his three children, David Liedlich (Gosia) of Southbury, Steven Liedlich of Southbury, and Susan Liedlich of Atlanta, GA; brother and sister-in-law Allan Crittenden of Vernon, Mary Chambers Crittenden of Manchester; nephews and nieces Robert Liedlich of Waterbury, Janet Daigle (Brian) of Vernon, Scott Crittenden (Kim Davis) of New Britain, and grand nieces Tina, Alicia, Bethany, and Kelley. He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in law Theodore and Pauline Lingis Liedlich.
