Harry was happiest working outdoors. From an early age, he worked on local farms, usually managing herds of cows but he was adept at all aspects of farming. He worked at French Tube Industries in Newtown as a young man, but settled into a tree and landscaping business for the last 30 years. One of his great joys was his annual fishing trip to Chibougamau in northern Quebec.
This annual fishing trip was Harry’s north star and he liked to share it with his sons and friends. He was an irascible character who was opinionated and didn’t hesitate to share his views. He was also kind and generous and leaves behind many friends who he cared deeply about.

It was not unusual for friends to find a cord of wood delivered to them if Harry thought they needed it. He might also show up with plants, flowers, treasures from estate sales or anything else that he thought might bring a smile to his friends and family.
He lived an independent life-style and his quiet generosity was often hidden beneath a gruff exterior. For those who found a way beneath his exterior, they were richly rewarded by a good friend and a truly unique man. Graveside services are at Pine Hill Cemetery in Southbury on Thursday, October 27 at 11 a.m.
There will be a celebration of Harry’s life immediately following the service at the home of Mary Ellen and Jeff Zakrzewski, 11 South George’s Hill, Southbury .
The family suggests donations may be made to Danbury Regional Hospice, 30 Milestone Road, Danbury, CT 06810, or to simply honor his memory by offering a helping hand to a friend or neighbor. Arrangements are by Carpino Funeral Home in Southbury.
