Plans To Repair Flood-Damaged Southbury Trails To Be Unveiled

SOUTHBURY, CT — State officials will present plans Tuesday night to repair four Larkin State Bridle Trail stream crossings damaged by the August 2024 flood.

Two of the crossings are in Southbury, near Jeremy Swamp Road and Curt Smith Road. The other two are near Pope Road and Christian Street in Oxford.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and SLR Consulting will discuss the proposed repairs during a public information session beginning at 6 p.m. at Southbury Town Hall.

The presentation will examine the current condition of each crossing and the proposed approach to rebuilding and stabilizing the damaged areas. Officials will also discuss how the repairs could better protect the trail during future storms.

Other topics will include engineering and environmental concerns, potential recreational use, permitting and possible construction impacts.

A project schedule and anticipated timeline are also expected to be presented. The announcement does not include a construction cost or expected starting date.

The public will have an opportunity to ask questions after the presentation.

The meeting will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Room 205 of Southbury Town Hall, 501 Main St. South. A virtual attendance link and the complete agenda are available in the town’s announcement.
