Pomperaug High Athletics Advance in State Tournaments
Pomperaug was in action Tuesday, with two teams advancing to second round play today.
An action-packed afternoon on the diamond saw two local squads move on in the first round of the baseball and softball state tournaments.
#2 Pomperaug baseball (18-3) dominated #31 Fairfield Ludlow in the first round of Class ‘L’ play. Next up for the Panthers is South West Conference rival #15 Newtown at home today at 3:30 p.m. Newtown beat #18 Bristol Central 8-4 in their opener Tuesday.
#17 Pomperaug softball (13-8) edged past #16 Norwich Free Academy 8-5 yesterday. They move on to face the Class ‘LL’ top seeded Westhill Vikings, who are coming off a first round bye, today at 4 p.m.
