Pomperaug Region 15 Students Honored

Students were honored for their academics and for serving their communities.

The Superintendent/Student Recognition Program is designed to recognize students at all grade levels who have served their schools and communities while maintaining good scholastic progress and exhibiting leadership qualities.

The recognition program is sponsored by Connecticut Association of Public Schools Superintendents (CAPSS) and Litchfield County Superintendents Association (LCSA).

Memorial Middle School
Kyra McNerney is a leader, scholar, and athlete thanks to her consistent effort and natural talents. She earned High Honors in sixth and seventh grade, and received seven Academic Certificates of Excellence. Kyra participates in band, soccer, and she sells tickets at school events. Kyra serves as co-president in Student Government and has raised money for the St. Jude Foundation and the Wounded Warrior Project. Kyra volunteers for the TOPsoccer organization, and helps fund-raise money for the Jimmy Fund, and for diabetes research.

Max Bueno is a top student at MMS. He received the MMS Amar Viswanath Award for his profound positive impact on students and staff. Max served as a science lab technician, leading tours for visitors. He plays on the soccer and baseball teams. Max will be actively involved in our student government and drama club. Max participates in Middlebury Soccer, Watertown Baseball, Middlebury Basketball and Baseball, and Pomperaug Football, earned his black belt in karate, takes drum lessons, and participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

Rochambeau Middle School
Erin Farrell is a top student at Rochambeau Middle School, earning high honors in all academic classes. Her leadership skills are evident in her work as a peer tutor, student council and Middle Link member, and as a first chair in band where she plays the French Horn. In addition, Erin is a member of Tri-M and sings in the chorus. Her leadership ability extends to the wider community where as a Girl Scout, Erin is organizing multiple fundraisers to help underprivileged children in Waterbury.

Winson Chen has accomplished much in his two years at Rochambeau Middle School, earning A’s in all classes, and advancing to the state level competition in both Math Counts and You Be the Chemist (where he placed fourth). Winson is a soccer player for RMS and a member of the Chamber Orchestra. His musical prowess extends to the wider community where as an accomplished pianist and violinist, Winson has performed at multiple venues and is a member of the Norwalk Youth Symphony, often as first or second chair.

Pomperaug High School
Nicholas Lucatino is an outstanding Senior who has selflessly committed to enhancing the culture and climate of PHS over the past four years. Nick is a Student Representative to the Board of Education and has participated in a variety of service based clubs including Student Council, Interact, Adopt-a-Grandparent, publicity coordinator for Big Brother/Big Sister, and a religious education teacher. Nick is a dependable volunteer who assists our special needs on a daily basis. We thank Nicolas for making PHS a special place.

Madisyn Silva exemplifies a Pomperaug student. Her commitment to a rigorous education is demonstrated by her exceptional performance in a variety of AP classes. Madisyn’s leadership skills earned her the role of varsity Volleyball Team Captain. Madisyn is a member of National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, FBLA, Big Brother/Big Sister, Outreach, Interact, and Student Government. Within the community, she is actively involved with March of Dimes, Penguin Plunge, and teaching religious education. PHS is honored to have Madisyn as our student.
