Referendum Date Set For Region 15 Budget Proposal

SOUTHBURY/MIDDLEBURY, CT — A referendum has been scheduled for May 8 on the Region 15 Board of Education's $70.8 million proposed budget for fiscal 2019-20, which increases spending by about 2.5 percent, the Republican-American reports.

New Schools Superintendent Joshua Smith received high-marks from the school board for the budget's transparency. Board members said they were pleased that the budget preserved class sizes while also expanding class offerings and the inclusion of technology in the district, according to the Rep-Am.

In Smith's budget plan, he wrote, "As we enter the process of budget development with an eye towards fiscal responsibility, it is crucial to keep sight of our mission. We must preserve

the communities’ expectation of a quality education and the trust they provide in us."

Region 15 is always rated among the best school system's in the state.
