Region 14 Students Seriously Injured In Bus Crash In Southbury: Police
As a result of the collision, two students were ejected from the bus, police said.
SOUTHBURY, CT — Serious injuries were reported after a Region 14 school bus was involved in a crash Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Police said at 2:38 p.m. a Region 14 school bus transporting students was traveling on Southford Road near Jeremy Swamp Road when it was struck by a vehicle operated by Richard Estey, 65, of Southbury. The impact forced the bus into a third vehicle traveling northbound on Southford Road, police added.
As a result of the collision, two students were ejected from the bus, police said. Several other occupants sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment. Police have been advised that all injured parties are currently in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, police added.

Estey was taken into custody and is charged with driving under the influence and failure to obey a traffic control signal. He was later released on a $25,000 bond. The incident remains under investigation.

Region 14 Superintendent Brian Murphy wrote in a letter obtained by WFSB 3 TV that Nonnewaug High School students from Prospect and Beacon Falls were on the bus at the time of the crash.
He confirmed that some of the students sustained serious injuries and added that the bus driver also went to the hospital, WFSB 3 TV reported.
