Region 15 Appoints Director of Fine, Applied, and Technical Arts

The position garnered 48 applications, which were vetted through an extensive process involving committees.

MIDDLEBURY/SOUTHBURY, CT – Region 15 Superintendent of Schools Regina Lemerich Botsford announced that Jeromy Nelson has been appointed as Director of Fine, Applied, and Technical Arts in Region 15. This action was taken at the June 1st, 2017 Special Meeting of the Board of Education. His position will be effective beginning July, 2017.

The position garnered 48 applications, which were vetted through an extensive process involving committees comprising teachers, parents, and administrators.

“I am very pleased to welcome Mr. Nelson to our district and am very appreciative of the members of the search committee who thoroughly evaluated applicants for this position and recommended such a highly qualified candidate. I am confident that Mr. Nelson will be successful in working with our community and staff to continue the high standards of educational excellence, appreciation for arts, and collaborative technical and art programs for which Region 15 is known,” said Regina Lemerich Botsford, Superintendent of Region 15 Schools in a news release.

Nelson is currently the Coordinator of Technology Engineering, Business and Computer Science in the Darien Public School system in Darien, CT. He has been a Technology and Engineering Education Teacher in the Darien Public School District for the past fourteen years, concurrently serving as Coordinator for the past five years.

In addition to his administrative and teaching leadership positions, he is the recipient of the 2016 International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA) Teacher of the Year award, has been an adjunct professor at the University of Bridgeport and has served on a variety of leadership teams overseeing district wide initiatives. Outside of the school community, Mr. Nelson has served in a variety of capacities at the Boy Scouts of America Camp Mattatuck, most recently as Camp Director.

ENGINEERING EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION

Nelson has a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from the University of Bridgeport, a Master’s degree in Instructional Technology from Western Connecticut State University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Technological Studies, Education Option, from Keene State College.

Nelson’s educational and leadership skills at building and district levels, experience leading programs outside of the educational setting, as well as extensive membership on professional development committees, will serve him well in his leadership position with the fine, applied, and technical art departments in Region 15.

“I am looking forward to being part of Region 15 and am focused on maintaining and further developing a dynamic, collaborative program based on high expectations for student achievement,” said Nelson in a prepared statement.

Nelson will replace Jane Sargeant following her retirement. He will be responsible for overseeing the fine, applied, and technical arts programs for Grades K-12.
