Region 15 Students Receive Superintendent's Award
Six students were honored for the successes in and out of the classroom.

From Region 15 Schools: Joshua Smith, Superintendent of Region 15 Schools, named six students as the recipients of the Litchfield County Superintendent’s Award for the 2018-19 school year, sponsored by the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents.
The following students were selected from Region 15: Julia Richardson and Catherine Windover from Pomperaug High School (PHS); Haley Capuano and Isabella DeLeo from Memorial Middle School (MMS); and Ethan Hudson and Charlotte Kachur from Rochambeau Middle School (RMS). They were recognized at the March 25 th , 2019 Region 15 Board of Education meeting.
Students were selected for their demonstration of outstanding leadership, citizenship, academic performance, participation in community service and extracurricular activities. They joined other students from schools across Litchfield County at a formal student recognition award ceremony held March 14, 2019 in Torrington, CT.

Pomperaug High School:
Julia Richardson, a senior at PHS and a member of four school honor societies: National, Science, Spanish, and Tri-M Music. She is a student who maintains excellent grades while taking a rigorous course load, actively participating in her church and various school clubs and activities, and serving in leadership positions. A talented dancer, who has received formal ballet training since she was three years old, she currently maintains a schedule of dancing 18 hours per week. She is the co-founder of the PHS program Youth Wildlife and Recycling Foundation (YWARF), dedicated to serving the recycling community.
Catherine Windover, an involved member of the senior class at Pomperaug High School and is recognized for organizing the Battle of the Bands, raising over $2000 for the Luck2Tuck Foundation. She is actively involved in the PHS Student Government as a Class Officer and as the Publicity and Technology Coordinator. She is an editor of the school newspaper and is involved with the Girl Scouts of America for the last 13 years, anticipating that she will receive her Gold Award this Spring.

Memorial Middle School:
Haley Capuano is a wonderful 8 th grade student and friend to her classmates at MMS. She is involved in many activities and clubs demonstrating her leadership ability and care for others in each of them. She is a founding member of the SPARK Club (Students Promoting Respect and Kindness) and serves as a French tutor for her fellow students. She participates in National History Day and is part of the Anti-Defamation League's Ally Leadership group.
Isabella DeLeo, an 8th grader at MMS, demonstrates her leadership abilities and love of learning through active participation in many clubs and activities. She is a member of Student Government, Girl Scouts, and the Cross Country Team. Isabella is an exemplary student, who is described as hard working and dedicated. She is a State finalist in the National History Day Competition and works as a Lab Technician with one of our science teachers. In all of her activities and work, Isabella brings her kind heart, compassion for others, and wonderful talent.
Rochambeau Middle School:
Ethan Hudson is a talented eighth grader who contributes positively to Rochambeau Middle School. He is a positive, personable and hardworking student who has been recognized by staff for his passion and enthusiasm for learning across subject areas. Ethan is actively involved in school activities and demonstrates tremendous leadership skills while serving as homeroom representative for Student Council, during Cross Country season to motivate other runners, and playing the trumpet in our school band. Ethan has also demonstrated leadership through his role as a peer tutor for math as well as his participation in the “Becoming an Ally” peer leader training. Furthermore, he has received the #RMSPride Spotlight Student recognition for the positive character attributes of respect and determination. Ethan’s consistency as a positive, dedicated, and caring student throughout his middle school experience makes him a worthy representative for receiving this well-deserved and prestigious honor.
Charlotte Kachur is an exceptional eighth grader who positively contributes to Rochambeau Middle School. She has demonstrated leadership skills throughout the school community -- in the classroom, during Cross Country, as a participant in band, chorus, and chorale. She sets personal goals and perseveres to meet or exceed those targets. Charlotte is also a member of Student Council and is on the Morning Announcement Committee. Academically, she has consistently received high honors and has proven to give her very best in every learning experience. Charlotte has been recognized by staff for her integrity and responsibility through the #RMSPride Spotlight Student award recognition. Additionally she models positive character traits and participated in the “Becoming an Ally” Peer Leader Training. Charlotte is truly a worthy recipient for this recognition honor and exemplifies the leadership traits that we would hope to see in all students.
