Report: Southbury Receives $1.1M Grant to Acquire Flood-Prone Properties
The funds will be used to acquire flood-prone properties, which will be turned into a recreational use.

Southbury officials revealed some good news Monday afternoon.
The town will receive a $1.1 million federal grant to purchase nine “flood-prone” properties that are located along the Pomperaug River and raze them and forever preserve the land for recreational purposes, the Republican-American reports.
The program is voluntary, the paper reports, and the funds will cover 75 percent of a property’s fair market value and the homeowner can apply for bonding for the rest of the value.
