Scammers Target Southbury and Oxford

Most of the calls originate from outside of the United States.

The amount of scam phone calls Americans are receiving seemingly is increasing, and residents of Southbury and Oxford are part of that.

The Waterbury Republican-American reports that Southbury police received a report of someone claiming to be a Microsoft associate and told the victim that their computer had a virus, and it could be removed for $250.

Then in Oxford, a dozen residents have complained this summer about receiving phone calls from people representing they were with the Internal Revenue Service or a relative and demanding money, the Republican-American reported.
