Selectman Jennifer O'Neill to Resign From Southbury EDC
O'Neill will hand in a written letter of resignation at tonight's Board of Selectmen meeting.

Selectman Jennifer O’Neill will resign from the Southbury Economic Development Commission at Wednesday night’s Board of Selectmen meeting, the Republican-American reports.
At an ethics commission hearing on Monday, O’Neill argued against an anonymous complaint that said O’Neill was violating a town ethics code by serving on both the Board of Selectmen and the Economic Development Commission.
The Ethics Commission hired an attorney to advise commissioners about the complaint for which the town approved a $5,000 purchase order, the paper reports.

While many at the hearing agreed that the code could be written more clearly, First Selectman Ed Edelson said many interpret the code as stating that an official cannot serve on two permanent boards at the same time.
O’Neill said she would be resigning as she did not want to waste taxpayer dollars on outside counsel although she did not believe the complaint had merit, the paper reports.

The hearing against O’Neill will continue on Nov. 13, where the public will be allowed to comment.
