Southbury Budgets Less for Open Space Acquisition Next Year

Southbury officials have set a goal of having 25 percent of all the property in town preserved as open space. Currently, 17 percent of Southbury is considered open space. 

Despite that goal the town has only set aside $2,000 for open space acquisition in next year’s budget, and that is down from the $50,000 set aside during this year’s budget request, the Republican-American reports.

But that doesn’t mean town officials don’t support open space, it’s just that the majority feel if there is a larger purchase to be made they can bond the money instead, the Rep-Am reports.

Additionally, $850,000 has already been earmarked in two reserve accounts for open space acquisition.
