Southbury Dance Studio Brings Home Four Trophies at FAWC

Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Southbury is very proud of their students achievements at the 2016 World Dance Competition in Las Vegas.

Fred Astaire Dance Studios of Southbury CT is proud to celebrate the successes of their students at the most recent dance competition at the Fred Astaire World Championships, FAWC which was held at the Bellagio Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, NV , July 25th through July 29th.

Every student from Southbury placed under the top 3 in their single dances. And we were the most successful dance studio from the New England Region. Our students seem to agree that competing in ballroom dancing ensures a great time as well as a tremendous feeling of accomplishment. While doing your best and receiving strong scores is certainly part of any healthy competition, with our team it remains fun, light-hearted, and friendly.

In the Bronze International Latin Championship and Scholarship Dr.Rose Yu Chin took 2nd place, 2nd place in the International Standard Closed Championship and 6th Place in American Smooth Bronze Closed Championship, Shirley Jakobowski took 3rd place in Silver American Rhythm Closed Championship and 4th place in Silver American Smooth Closed Championships, Janet Dick Runner up 2nd place In the International Ballroom Open Senior Championship and Debra Hendrickson won the 4th place Open Gold American Smooth Championships.

“Participating in our competitions gives every student the opportunity to progress more rapidly and become a better dancer sooner. Students focus on improvement and show off their skills on the floor. They compete with other student dancers in order to take home a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award. “We always create the most easygoing and enjoyable atmosphere for our students at the National Competitions”, says Mr. Jorge. It eliminates the anxiety that usually takes place at these events, making the focus only on what’s important: their improvement and skills.

Congratulations goes to Christian Lange, studio co-director, and Talia Barrington from Fred Astaire Tarrytown, NY for becoming World Champions in the Silver American Smooth Closed Championship. Most of the championships consist of 20 or more competitive couples. He was also recognized among the top world male instructors and won 1st place Top Teacher International Ballroom Award and 2nd Place Top Teacher Overall. There were close to fifty Fred Astaire instructors competing for the title. The award is based on competition placements and improvements among students. “ I feel blessed having such wonderful students, so I feel that this award is actually an award for them”, says Mr. Lange. “Without my students I would not be where I am today. A special thanks to all my competing students for making this honor possible.
