Southbury Fire Department Extinguishes Kitchen Fire

Firefighters had a busy Wednesday responding to a kitchen fire and two carbon monoxide alarm calls.

SOUTHBURY, CT — Firefighters had a busy Wednesday responding to a kitchen fire and two carbon monoxide alarm calls, according to a Facebook post from the department. Southbury Fire was dispatched to a reported appliance fire in a kitchen in Heritage Village at 4:16 p.m.

Firefighters extinguished the remainder of a microwave fire. Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to check for any fire behind the walls in the kitchen and found none.

Crews ventilated the unit. No injuries were reported, and the occupants were safe.

Southbury Fire was also dispatched shortly after responding to the kitchen fire to a reported carbon monoxide alarm across town. Crews discovered a problem with the wood stove with CO levels above 150 PPM. Crews ventilated the house and shut down the wood stove.

It was the second carbon monoxide alarm the department responded to Wednesday. In the first alarm, crews discovered CO levels above 100 PPM at a large structure, which they then ventilated.
