Southbury Hosts Second Annual Volunteer Fair
The event is this Saturday, August 29 on the Southbury Green.

In recognition of the immense contribution volunteers make to the quality of life in our community, the Town of Southbury will host a Volunteer Fair on Saturday, August 29th from 9 AM to noon at the Gazebo area of the Southbury Green on 775 Main Street South.
Over 50 nonprofit organizations will be on hand to discuss the services they provide and the varied volunteer opportunities they offer. These organizations span a wide variety of interests that include environmental preservation, senior citizen issues, youth activities, artistic outlets, emergency response, veterans’ groups and many more.

For residents who are wondering how they can make a difference in Southbury, this is a perfect opportunity to find a volunteer program that matches their skills, interests and time schedule.

- Tours of Ambulance and Fire Vehicles will be conducted by members of their organizations.
- The “spotlight” topic of this year’s Fair is Volunteering for the Environment. Examples of good environmental stewardship will be available through the auspices of the Audubon Center Bent of the River, as part of their outreach programming.
- At 10 AM, at the Gazebo, the Southbury Community Trust Fund will announce the names of the local nonprofit organizations that have been awarded SCTF grants in 2014-2015.
This Volunteer Fair event is partially underwritten by the Southbury Community Trust Fund of the Connecticut Community Foundation in recognition of the immense contributions made by nonprofit organizations and their volunteers in every community. The Southbury Business Association is also a sponsor, acknowledging the value volunteers add to the character and appeal of the Town.
Southbury would be quite a different place without the generosity of volunteers who provide services in many, varied arenas.
