Southbury Ice Rink Damaged After Unauthorized Use on New Year's Day

The use of the rink may be jeopardized if the warm weather continues.

From the Office of First Selectman Ed Edelson:

“Apparently some people were using the town’s skating rink at Community Park on New Year’s Day. Due to weeks of abnormally warm weather, the rink was still not ready. The sign indicating it was closed had been removed. The water that is coming out of the northeast corner indicates that the hole where a skate went through may have damaged the liner. If it stays cold, we might be OK, but if we have a warm spell, more water might leak out jeopardizing the use of the rink. The town crew monitors the ice and will let the public know when it is safe and ready for use. Thank you.”
