Southbury Library Board Denies Request to Use Gift Fund Money for HVAC Repair
The Board of Selectmen voted last month to encourage the library board to pay for the work.

The Library Board of Directors denied a request to use money in its gift fund to pay for the commissioning process of the library’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning system, the Republican-American reports.
The commissioning process is expected to cost between $50,000 and $60,000.
According to the paper, the board denied the request saying donations to the fund given without specific intent are meant to be used for items that go “above and beyond” what the town should provide.

The Board of Selectmen say there is $400,000 in the fund that is meant to be used for building-related purposes and could be used to repair the HVAC system. According to the paper, First Selectman Ed Edelson said the money could be paid back in three years in the form of energy savings.
Members of the library board say approximately $250,000 in unspent construction money was given back to the town when the building came under budget and the town should look into the funds, the paper reports.
