Southbury Man Charged With Sexual Assault, Strangulation: Court Records

SOUTHBURY, CT — Matthew Rooney, 24, of Southbury is facing numerous charges including sexual assault of a spousal or cohabiting relationship, four counts of third-degree assault, four counts of second-degree strangulation, and first-degree unlawful restraint, according to Connecticut judicial records.

He was arrested on July 14 and released after posting a $35,000 bond, according to court records. Rooney is scheduled to appear in court on August 8.

No details were given but the Republican-American reports that Rooney is accused of sexually assaulting his spouse on July 11.
