Southbury Needy Fund Holiday Gift Program is Underway
For 38 years the fund has provided new clothing and toys for children in town.

The Southbury Needy Fund Holiday gift program is now underway. For 38 years the Fund has provided new clothing and toys for children on the list. For Christmas 2014 the Fund made sure that 168 children from 80 Southbury families in need received plenty of new clothing, books and toys. We expect this year’s list from Social Services to be around the same number of children.
The Town’s Social Services Director, Sandy Saren, provides a list of the families eligible for the program. The Fund then goes out to the community who has made the program an overwhelming success each year by donations of new clothing or monetary contributions.
Support is received from many wonderful residents, as well as churches, the Police Department’s Toy Drive, SVFA Women’s Auxiliary, Town Hall offices and the Library, PES, GES, LMES elementary schools and RMS, many community organizations and businesses such as banks, financial offices, real estate offices, doctor’s offices, and restaurants.

Each Christmas the children on the Needy Fund list receive new outfits, pajamas, socks and underwear, sweaters, winter hat and mittens and toys. Special needs such as winter coats, snow pants, winter boots, shoes and blankets are also provided.
The Southbury Needy Fund operates on a year-round basis providing emergency services to Southbury residents when there are no other sources available. The Christmas gift program, however, continues to be the focal point of the fund.
