Southbury Police Department Looks To Hire New Officers

Starting salary for a Southbury police officer is $60,271.33.

SOUTHBURY, CT — The Southbury Police Department is looking to add two new police officers to its ranks, according to a job posting on the town's website.

Starting salary for the town's police officers is $60,271.33, and applicants must complete a physical ability test, and a written exam administered by the Connecticut Police Chief's Association. Applicants must score 70 percent or higher on the written exam.

The available jobs are for an entry level officer and an already certified officer. Both positions have a similar starting salary, but the certified officer position could start higher salary of up to $66,449.14, depending on experience.

"The Police Officer position involves responsibility for protection of life and property, the prevention, detection, and investigation of crimes and ordinances and maintaining law and order," the job posting reads. "Police Officers must use logic, common sense, and their own judgment while acting with and without supervision in emergency situations."

  • 21 Years of age at the time of appointment
  • High School or General Educational Development Diploma (minimum)
  • Possess a valid Connecticut Driver's License
  • No Felony Convictions
  • No DWI Convictions
  • No Class A or Class B Misdemeanor Convictions
  • No arrests/convictions of domestic violence
  • No acts of perjury or false statements

The application process also includes a background check, polygraph examination, drug screening and other requirements.

Currently, the Southbury Police Department has "23 full-time police officers, one Resident Trooper Supervisor, 5 full-time dispatchers, 2 part-time dispatchers, and 2 civilian employees."
