Southbury Surplus Surprises Selectmen

The municipality collected more funds and spent less money than anticipated for fiscal year 2014-15

Southbury ended its 2014-15 fiscal year with a sizable surprise surplus.

According to the Republican-American, the $943,000 surplus exceeded the expectations of the people putting next year’s budget together.

The article said that members of the selectmen and finance boards had anticipated the surplus to be about $560,000.

Treasurer William G. Sarosky, the Republican-American reported, said the town collected about $400,000 more than expected and spent about $543,000 less than previously budgeted.
