Southbury Town Official Not Charged with Violation of Barring Citizen From Meeting

The citizen was not barred from the accused meeting because there was no meeting, the Freedom of Information Commission ruled.

State Freedom of Information Commission dismissed a complaint made by Bernard Kokinchak, of Southbury, against selectman Jennifer O’Neill, according to the Republican-American. Kokinchak accused O’Neill of kicking him out of an Oct. 8 meeting regarding the Animal Shelter Task Force.

O’Neill said she had told Kokinchak the meeting was canceled and asked him to leave, when he became “aggressive” and police presence was threatened by both parties, the Rep-Am reported.

At a hearing, Kathleen K. Ross, an FOI hearing officer, determined there was no official meeting that took place at the time of the incident, and therefore there was no violation, the Rep-Am reported.
