Southbury Unemployment Rate Below State Level, Above Surrounding Towns
Southbury unemployment rate at 7.9 percent for July.

After entering 2011 with an 8.5 percent unemployment rate, which rose to 8.9 percent in February, unemployment in Southbury has decreased by one percent and sits below the state average, according to data released by the Connecticut Department of Labor earlier today.
According to reports, there are 744 unemployed Southbury residents among a workforce of 9,376. The 7.9 percent unemployment rate that Southbury posted for July falls 1.3 percent below the Connecticut average of 9.2 percent.
There are 1,907,000 people in the state workforce, of them 175,000 are currently out of work, according to the Department of Labor.
Southbury’s July unemployment rate shows a positive trend, but fails to stack up against neighboring towns such as Woodbury’s 6.4 percent, Newtown’s 7.0 percent and Oxford’s 7.2 percent.
