'START IN SOUTHBURY' CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED

The program is designed to support local Southbury businesses,

The Southbury Economic Development Commission (SEDC) announced today that it is sponsoring a new campaign designed to support our local businesses. The idea is simple: SEDC wants Southburians to always first consider whether a gift, product, or service can be purchased in Southbury before traveling out of town to shop.

The SEDC plans to partner with local organizations, businesses, and the Town of Southbury to develop a presence and awareness of the “START IN SOUTHBURY” initiative at a variety of venues and events throughout the upcoming holiday season.

Southbury residents are asked to be on the lookout for brightly colored, eco-friendly “START IN SOUTHBURY” shopping bags being distributed for free at local stores, and to reuse them throughout the season to help keep the message going strong.

Anne Armeno, Chair of the SEDC, explains: “We are excited to kick off this new initiative. SEDC knows that supporting our Southbury businesses will benefit our Town by fostering a vibrant business community, providing a wide variety of shopping options for our residents, expanding the tax base, and creating local jobs, to name just a few. This is our chance to give back to the same businesses that support our youth sports teams, sponsor charitable events, and contribute to our Town in so many other ways. When our local businesses win, Southbury surely wins.”

While the “START IN SOUTHBURY” roll-out is planned to coincide with the upcoming holiday shopping season, the SEDC’s goal is to support the continuing spirit of community that already exists in our Town by maintaining the “START IN SOUTHBURY” climate year-round.
