Sustainable Southbury Celebrates Collecting 100,000 Redeemables

Sustainable Southbury and EyeRecycle reached the goal of collecting 100,000 redeemable bottles and cans for recycling on Sunday, November 5th. This partnership was created to make it easy for people to redeem their bottles and cans and receive the full deposit back. Starting on Jan. 1, 2024, the deposit amount will double to 10 cents per item.

On the first Sunday of every month between 12 and 3, EyeRecycle and members of Sustainable Southbury set up a quick process to return redeemable bottles and cans. Residents who purchase the EyeRecycle bags that contain a fill line for quick counting can rapidly move through an express lane and collect their redemption funds. A full EyeRecycle bag of 750ml bottles earns $20 cash back.

You can also bring your bottles in your bags. The volunteers will transfer them into the EyeRecycle bags for you. Many repeat participants purchase EyeRecycle bags every month and can go quickly through the express lane.

Please place 1-liter bottles and 2-liter bottles in separate bags to speed up the transfer and ensure you receive the correct amount for your bottles. Place redeemable glass bottles (no wine or liquor bottles) in your small cardboard box or a 6, 12, 18, or 24-pack cardboard carrier - we cannot accept loose glass bottles.

Sustainable Southbury encourages scout troops, school groups, sports teams, etc., to volunteer to help on the Sundays of collection and earn money from participant donations.
