From Pomperaug Schools: Pomperaug High School student Taylor Dembski was accepted to the National Association for Music Education(NAfME) 2018 ALL-NATIONAL CHORUS, part of the All-National Honor Ensembles.
The NAfME All-National Honor Ensembles represent the top performing high school musicians in the United States. Eligible students have qualified for their state-level honor ensemble program and competed against top students for a spot in the national honor ensembles. The ensembles will perform under the baton of leaders in the field of music education. The NAfME All-National Honor Ensembles are represented in the following components: Concert Band, Mixed Choir, Symphony Orchestra, and Jazz Ensemble. Taylor, a junior at Pomperaug High School (PHS), developed a passion for performance through the Chorus and Chorale at Rochambeau Middle School and is currently a member of the Pomperaug High School Chorale and Chamber Chorus (audition ensemble) - a select group of students who are expected to sight-sing, correctly notate music and critically listen to music in addition to performance expectations. The quality of her work and
effort is demonstrated by her participation for the past two years in the CMEA Southern Regional chorus and All-State Chorus. Participation in the Southern Regional Chorus and All-State Chorus are pre-requisites to auditioning for the All National Chorus. Taylor has been a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, a national honor society for student musicians in grades 6-12 for the past two years. She shares her talents within the local community, often singing The
National Anthem, a Capella, at PHS sporting events and community events, and in roles for the Newbury Musical Theatre and the Pomperaug High School Theatre Company. She recently performed at the Southbury Celebration in September and is currently preparing to perform at a cabaret show in New York City in October.
An honor student-athlete, she has been a member of the Girls Varsity Swim Team at PHS for three years and a member of the PHS Girls Basketball team; as well as a member of the Interact Club, Link Crew and an active participant in Mission Trips at Sacred Heart Church. Taylor studies with private voice instructor, Cynthia Servetas, and plans to pursue a career in the performing
arts. Taylor lives in Southbury with her parents, Chris and Alyson, and is the middle of three sisters.
