The Watermark at East Hill Hosts Discussion on Life as a State Trooper

An informative lecture open to the public featuring guest speakers Trooper 1st Class Donald Chasse and Detective Rachael Van Ness

On Monday, May 11th, The Watermark at East Hill will host an informational lecture called, “The Role of a Connecticut State Police Trooper.” The event will feature guest speakers Trooper 1st Class Donald Chasse and Detective Rachael Van Ness from the Connecticut State Police. The class, which is open to the public, will begin at 1:30pm at the senior living community, located at 611 East Hill Road in Southbury.

Detective Van Ness and Trooper Chasse will discuss the daily routines of State Troopers, as well as describe their experiences being stationed in specialized units within the Connecticut State Police. This exciting course is designed to educate those about the day-to-day tasks of Connecticut law enforcement officers.

“We have a very high level of respect and admiration for our law enforcement officers and the important role they play in our community.” said Connie Haworth, Executive Director of The Watermark at East Hill. “We are glad to have Detective Van Ness and Trooper Chasse at The Watermark to discuss their experiences and educate our residents and guests on how they serve and protect throughout the state.”

For more than 14 years, Detective Van Ness has worked as a State Trooper with the Connecticut State Police and has served on several specialized task forces including the DMV Corruption Task Force and the Hartford Police/Connecticut State Police Joint Task Force initiative. She is currently assigned to the Western District Major Crime Squad out of the Southbury Troop Barracks.

Trooper Chasse is also stationed in the Southbury Troop Barracks and has been a member of the State Police for eight years. Chasse specializes in dog handling, earning a rank with the K-9 unit five years ago. He currently patrols Western Connecticut with his partner, K-9 Zeus.

The lecture is part of The Watermark at East Hill’s “Watermark University,” a continuing education program designed to keep senior minds and bodies fit.
