Windy Forecast Made Southbury Celebration Planned Fireworks Impossible
The co-chair of Southbury Celebration 2015 elaborates on the need to cancel the popular annul event.

The following is the official announcement on the need to cancel Southbury Celebration 2015.
It is with deep regret that Southbury Celebration 2015 has been cancelled based on the current weather predictions of heavy rain and high winds for much of the weekend. The wind is a major concern as the fireworks cannot be launched in windy or gusty conditions. This is for everyone’s protection. Even though there was a rain date of Sunday October 4th, the predictions are for continued bad weather and wind throughout the weekend. This is only the second time that the Celebration has had to be cancelled in the seventeen years since its inception.
The Committee did not make this decision lightly. This decision was made with due consideration and respect to all of our event stakeholders including our food vendors; sound, stage and lighting; fireworks company; singers and musicians; volunteers, employees and our audience. The Southbury Celebration Committee takes our role, responsibility and everyone’s safety very seriously and we are as disappointed as we know all of you must be.
