The local garden club and Southington HS students planted trees at Calendar House this week as the 2026 Gardeners Market is set for May 16.

Southington High School agricultural students and the local garden club collaborated earlier this week to plant two trees at the Southington Calendar House Senior Center. Next week, the center will host the club's annual 'Gardeners Market' event. (Calendar House)

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Two new trees were planted Monday at the Southington Calendar House Senior Center in a joint effort by the Orchard Valley Garden Club in Southington and students from Southington High School.

Owen McLaughlin, director of the school’s Agriculture Science and Technology Department, led students in completing the planting.

Organizers said the trees improve the property’s appearance. “The trees look beautiful,” the Calendar House said in a statement thanking the garden club and student participants.

The planting comes ahead of another collaboration between the garden club and Calendar House: the 2026 Gardeners Market, scheduled for Saturday, May 16, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Calendar House, 388 Pleasant St.

According to the garden club, proceeds from the event support scholarships and educational, civic, beautification, and conservation projects in Southington.
