The senior center, located at Calendar House Senior Center, announced the opening on May 7 in a social media post celebrating the completion of the project, which was funded through the federal American Rescue Plan Act, or ARPA.

“This addition—funded by ARPA—is more than just a place to play. It’s a place for our members to connect, stay active, and enjoy the outdoors,” the center said in its announcement.

The event included refreshments and the first matches played on the new court.

Calendar House thanked those involved in completing the project and said the court reflects the center’s motto that “Fun is Ageless!”

Among those attending the ceremony were state Rep. Christopher Poulos, D-Southington, and state Sen. Rob Sampson, R-Wolcott.

Poulos described it as a “perfect day” to celebrate the court’s opening.

Sampson said he participated in some of the first games after the ribbon cutting.

“This is a wonderful addition for the community and a great way to keep residents active and connected,” Sampson said in a social media post.
