How Reliable Is The Power In Southington? Recent Report Has The Answer

Eversource released town-by-town reliability scorecards showing fewer outages and faster restorations.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A power company report has detailed the electricity reliability in Southington, part of a recently released Eversource Energy report that details reliability statewide.

Eversource claims electric reliability for Connecticut customers has improved over the past decade, citing grid upgrades, automation technology, and vegetation management.

The company announced recently that customers now experience an average of one power interruption every 20 months, representing a 15% improvement since 2017.

In Southington, the data shows local electric customers experienced fewer and shorter power outages than the statewide average in 2025, according to the reliability scorecard released by Eversource.

The utility reported serving 21,427 customers in Southington during the year.

According to the report, the average Southington customer experienced one outage every 27 months, compared with the statewide average of one outage every 20 months.

The average customer experienced 50 minutes without power over the course of the year, including residents who did not experience an outage. Statewide, the average outage duration was 81 minutes.

When outages occurred, Eversource took an average of 113 minutes to restore service in Southington.

The report also found that 208 customers experienced three or more outages during the year, while 254 customers experienced an outage lasting seven hours or longer.

Vehicle-related incidents were the leading cause of outages in Southington in 2025, accounting for the largest share of service interruptions.

Equipment-related outages were the second most common cause, followed by tree-related incidents. Animal, lightning and other causes accounted for a smaller percentage of outages.

Eversource released the data as part of its annual electric reliability scorecards, which provide town-by-town information for the 149 Connecticut municipalities the company serves.

“These scorecards help our customers understand how outages impact their area while highlighting some of the critical work we do every day to strengthen our electric system and make it more resilient,” Eversource Vice President of Electric Field Operations Don Scacco said in a statement.

Scacco said the company uses outage data and cost-benefit analyses to determine where investments are needed, including smart switch installations and enhanced tree-trimming programs.

The scorecards also detail the leading causes of outages in each municipality and summarize local reliability and resiliency projects completed by the utility.

Eversource said ongoing infrastructure work includes replacing aging utility poles and electric lines with stronger equipment designed to better withstand severe weather.
