SOUTHINGTON, CT — Community organizations and the Connecticut Army National Guard are partnering for a food drive in Southington aimed at helping families facing food insecurity during the summer months.
The Summer Food Drive will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at Stop & Shop, 505 N. Main St.
Organizers are encouraging residents to donate food and other needed items to support local efforts to address childhood hunger while school is out of session.
The event's theme, "Step up and Guard against childhood hunger this summer," highlights a partnership that includes Southington Community Services, the Connecticut Army National Guard and STEPS, a local nonprofit organization focused on community support initiatives.
Summer months can be particularly challenging for families who rely on school meal programs during the academic year.
Organizers said the collection effort is intended to help fill that gap and provide assistance to children and families in need.
Residents visiting the grocery store during the event will have an opportunity to contribute donations and support local hunger-relief programs serving the Southington community.
