SOUTHINGTON, CT — An ex-law enforcer has announced his candidacy to represent most of Southington in the legislature during the November elections.
Tim Wilk, a retired Southington police sergeant and current reserve officer, has announced his candidacy for Connecticut State Representative in the 81st District, which covers most of Southington.
He will challenge state Rep. Christopher Poulos, D-Southington, who is seeking his third term in the legislature after being elected in 2022.
Wilk said he is seeking the seat after three decades of public service in Southington, including 25 years with the Southington Police Department.
He retired from the department as a sergeant in 2021 but continues to serve as a reserve officer.
In announcing his campaign, Wilk said his experience in law enforcement and community service has prepared him to represent Southington residents at the State Capitol.
"For 30 years, my job has been to show up for Southington when it matters most and to listen before I act," Wilk said. "I am ready to bring that service to the next level and give our community a voice that truly answers to the people."
Wilk's background includes service as an FBI-trained hostage and crisis negotiator.
He also volunteers with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Make-A-Wish and Connecticut Special Olympics.
He currently serves as chairman of Southington's Board of Fire Commissioners.
In addition to his public service roles, Wilk owns Tim Wilk Photography, a local small business.
He and his wife, Kristen, have lived in Southington since 2004 and raised their family in town.
Wilk said his campaign will focus on affordability issues, including reducing the cost of living, lowering taxes and addressing electric rates.
He also said he wants to make state government more accountable to residents.
"The principle I have lived by my whole career is simple. Listen with the intention to understand, not to respond," Wilk said. "That is exactly what I will do as your State Representative."
