SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Southington Public Library is encouraging residents to take part in its Adult Summer Reading Program, a seasonal initiative that rewards library visits and participation with prize drawing entries rather than traditional reading requirements.
The program, themed "Unearth a Story," runs from June 22 through Aug. 14.
Unlike many summer reading challenges, the adult program does not require registration, reading logs or tracking books read. Instead, participants earn one ticket each day they visit the library and either check out an adult item or attend an adult library event.
Tickets for checked-out materials will be distributed at the circulation desk, while event attendees will receive tickets at library programs. Participants can then place their tickets in prize drawing bins near the reference desk and select which prizes they would like to enter to win.
Library officials said 10 prizes will be awarded during the program. Featured prizes include a gift card to Van Wilgen's Garden Center and a free small suite session at SoLA Karaoke.
Participation is free, and residents may enter the drawings as often as they qualify. However, winners will be limited to one prize each.
All tickets must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14.
Registration for the library's children's and teen summer reading programs also begins June 16 through their respective departments.
