SOUTHINGTON, CT — Southington Emergency Management has activated the town's extreme heat protocol and opened multiple cooling centers as dangerous temperatures are expected to affect the region through the holiday weekend.
The cooling centers opened at noon Tuesday, June 30, and are scheduled to remain available through 6 p.m. Sunday, July 5.
Residents can use the following locations:
When the library and Calendar House are closed, the Southington Police Department lobby, 69 Lazy Lane, will serve as a temporary cooling location.
The lobby will remain open overnight and whenever the other cooling centers are unavailable.
Town officials are encouraging residents to stay hydrated, limit time outdoors during peak heat, and check on neighbors and pets throughout the prolonged period of high temperatures.
