2 Arrested After Southington 'Rideout' Ends In Assault/Robbery/Stabbing: Police

Southington police arrested an adult and a juvenile after a motorcyclist was assaulted and stabbed during a 'rideout' in Plantsville Monday.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A Waterbury man and a Cheshire juvenile have been arrested after a motorcyclist was assaulted, robbed and stabbed with a screwdriver during a large "rideout" involving bicycles, e-bikes and mopeds in Plantsville, according to Southington police.

Officers responded at about 2 p.m. Monday, July 20, to the area of 503 Main St. after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a large group obstructing traffic and creating disturbances along the roadway.

While officers were responding, police received additional reports that a motorcyclist was being assaulted.

According to the Southington Police Department, investigators determined that a 58-year-old motorcyclist became surrounded by members of the group and was forced to stop in the roadway.

During the encounter, multiple individuals assaulted the man and stole his cellphone.

Police said one of the assailants repeatedly stabbed the victim in the back with a screwdriver.

The victim was transported to an area hospital with injuries that police described as non-life-threatening.

Responding officers took into custody Kevin Manuel Rodriguez, 20, of Waterbury, and a 13-year-old juvenile from Cheshire in connection with the incident.

Rodriguez was charged with:

Police said Rodriguez was held on a $500,000 cash/surety bond and was scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on Tuesday, July 21.

The juvenile was transported to the Hartford Juvenile Detention Center under an "Order to Detain."

Police did not release the juvenile's identity because of age.

The investigation remains ongoing.
